Rural tourism in any country offers unique challenges. Local people, responsible councils and governments are wishing the globe over to economically develop and support rural communities through tourism.

Responsible tourism development can hugely benefit rural regions and it is crucial that sustainable principles are embedded into regional development plans and management at an early stage.

It is vital that visitor impact on rural communities and the environment is understood and that local people must have a voice in the planning process.

• Operates within the natural capacities for the regeneration and future productivity of natural     resources
• Recognizes the contribution that people and communities, customs and lifestyles, make to the tourism experience
• Accepts that people must have an equitable share in the economic benefits of tourism
• Is guided by the wishes of the local people and communities in host area.
